Focal points are like an exclamation mark in
the designed landscape. Whether a deliberately
placed object of interest to catch the eye, or
the shaping of a vista to frame a beautifully
sculpted tree, they can be a useable facility,
or an ornamental or artistic installation. Here,
the selected object works in harmony with the
theme and style of a garden and reflects the
personal style of the garden’s owner. Of the
many surprises in this garden, Simon Perry’s
Observatory sculpture is a standout.

Vertical Gardens are an emerging trend offering
a touch of nature in even the most contained
urban environments. Social, environmental
and economic benefits, along with increased
vegetation in urban settings, means bolstered
biodiversity and better air quality. This living,
meditative sanctuary, features copper vessels
planted with a tapestry of plants of varying
foliage shapes, colours and textures. The opaque
backing material – a shower screen – allows light
to filter through and acts as a vertical greenhouse.
The screen includes a whimsical and colourful
selection of hardy succulents, including Chalk
Sticks, Sedum Jelly Beans and Crassula erosula.
