Home' Outdoors : Scoop Outdoors 2012 13 Contents Having experienced the vertical gardens of Paris,
Ray and Susanne returned to Perth and to create
WA’s premier vertical garden company.
Vertical Gardens WA has worked with TV garden
presenters and shire councils to improve and instruct
people about the benefits of vertical gardening.
Apart from creating a wonderful ambience, green
walls improve air quality, reduces heat and noise,
and supplies a ‘wow’ factor. The company builds and
installs vertical gardens both in the soil blend and
hydroponic formats, and constantly strives to create
designs to meet growing architectural demands.

Designed by leading landscape architect Paul
Bangay and owner Patricia Poynton, Secret
Garden is set against a backdrop of sweeping
lawns, organic bush and soothing water
features. Given the slightly cooler weather in
Margaret River, Pat and Paul were able to grow
English box and crab apple trees. The lower
courtyard is designed as a walk lined with
crab apple, where oversized pavers set in local
gravel are used as stepping stones. Adding to
Pat’s collection of large, ribbed terracotta oil
jars, a third oil jar was purchased to link the
two parts of the garden and sits against the lilly
pilly hedge at the end of the walk. Paul Bangay
