HALLS HEAD LANDSCAPE
Designed by CultivArt Landscape Design and
constructed by Gentree Landscaping, this
property sits less than 100m from the coast.
While the main entertaining area is the
upstairs balcony, the owner wanted a lush,
inviting space protected from the wind for use
in entertaining and for her grandchildren to
enjoy when they visit.
The balcony overlooks the back garden,
so it was also a design requirement to create
a stunning aerial view.
Existing paving in the alfresco was replaced
with travertine. The area was then extended
beyond the alfresco pillars to create a visual
boardwalk, which appears to be suspended over
the newly created dry riverbed.
A blade wall, also clad in travertine, protrudes
obliquely into this dry riverbed. The water from
the stainless steel spout flows into an invisible
reservoir, providing the soothing sound of water
splashing onto rocks.
Several floating, washed aggregate platforms
are layered with Batu timber and lead to the
angled, built-in daybed area. Nestled in a
sub-tropical garden, this space will provide shade
and protection from the harsh afternoon sun.
Being so close to the beach, the outdoor
shower was designed for a post-ocean dip and
features stunning glass mosaic tiles applied to
the recessed back.
Because of the child-safe water feature
and the small area of grass to play on, the client
says her grandchildren love the interest and
diversity of this little garden, with its variety
of sitting areas and abundance of plants.
